In our lab, we study populations of hill cane (Arundinaria appalachiana), a species of bamboo endemic to the Southern Appalachian Mountains that can be found on the Domain. Arundinaria is the genus of bamboo that serves as the primary food source for the giant pandas of China. Little is known about the life history or ecology of hill cane. No population has ever been observed to flower or set seed.
